If you’ve ever had Oolong tea before, you’ll know that it has strong bitterness with a sweet after taste. Oolong tea is a traditional Chinese tea and is between black and green in oxidation. I came up with this idea after making the Jasmine tea ice cream. Lo and behold this oolong tea ice cream has the best texture of all the ice creams I have made so far. It was just so creamy, sweet, and delightful, that I will definitely be making it again in the near future!
INGREDIENTS
3 tbs Oolong tea leaves
2 cups half and half
2 cups heavy cream
1 cup sugar
DIRECTIONS
Heat half and half in sauce pan over medium heat until small bubbles form around the edge. Do not boil
Remove half and half from heat
Add Oolong tea leaves in the half and half. Stir and let it steap for 15 minutes.
Strain out the loose tea.
Add heavy cream and sugar to the mixture.
Heat mixture over medium heat until small bubbles form around the edge again. Do not boil.
Grapefruits are in season! Summer is the perfect season for a sweet, tart, and bitter taste all into one. Therefore it was only natural to try an ice cream that was different than our normal, sweet, grocery store bought kind. The recipe I came up with was a delightful mixture of these two recipes combined – Desert Candy and The Kitchn. I definitely thought this was another refreshing flavor and would definitely recommend it. But if you don’t like the tangy sour taste to grapefruits, you may not enjoy this as much.
INGREDIENTS
2 cups half and half
2 grapefruits
1 tsp grapefruit zest
1 cup sugar
3 ounces bittersweet chocolate chips
DIRECTIONS
Place the bitter chocolate chips in freezer
Scrub grapefruit with vegetable peeler to peel the zest.
Half the grapefruits and juice it with a juicer
Mix grapefruit juice, zest, and sugar in a sauce pan.
Simmer mixture over medium heat until slightly syrupy (7-10 minutes). Let mixture cool.
Stir half and half into cooled syrup. Chill in refrigerator for at least 3 hours.
Process mixture in ice cream maker and add the chocolate chips in during the last 2 minutes of processing.
There’s something amazingly romantic about the 156 mile long Chicago river, which flows through Downtown Chicago passing 38 movable bridges, down from a peak of 52 bridges. With the sun glazing above you as the boat takes you under each bridge, you are constantly longing for the shadows of patterns. This was the second time for me on the 75 minute architectural boat tour by Wendella. Though I was busy enjoying the scenery, taking video footage, and snapping away with my SLR, I did get learn about the basic styles of Chicago architecture: international style, art deco style, post-modern style. Perhaps one day I’ll be able to visit the city again during St. Patrick’s Day, when the city dyes the whole river green!
I haven’t watched this movie in years, but this scene from “My Best Friends Wedding” stuck with me throughout the last decade. Though it felt cheesy watching it again after so many years, I can still feel magic of the moment in time being captured so emotionally.
